As a graduate joining the Christchurch office, you would have the opportunity to work with an unrivalled range of clients including multi-national listed entities, large public sector organisations and medium sized privately owned businesses.

In Audit, client interaction is at the forefront. As a graduate auditor, you will be working alongside the vibrant audit team to understand and analyse our client’s businesses and the associated financial results that they present.

You’ll get the opportunity to work with consultants helping businesses transform, reset IT strategies and implement systems, design team networks and align/redesign organisational processes, re-structure organisations, and deliver significant programmes. Our work supporting the delivery of the 2023 Census demonstrates how these skillsets are combined to make an impact that matters throughout Aotearoa. We helped by providing specialist resources from teams across Deloitte including Scrum Masters (to manage the engineering team), Quality Engineering (to test the system), System engineering (to review and build components), Digital Customer (to provide Salesforce specific product knowledge), and continued project management services to manage vendors and deliver the final solution.

As a Christchurch graduate working in Financial Advisory you will have the opportunity to be involved in a broad range of work. In your first year you will be involved in a range of projects, including conducting financial analysis and due diligence, where you will assess the financial viability of potential acquisitions and divestments. You will also be tasked with completing valuations, where you will work on determining the intrinsic value of companies through various valuation methodologies. Your responsibilities will extend to assisting with the development or independent review of business cases and undertaking financial modelling exercises.

The nature of our work requires an inquisitive mind and a knack for problem solving, as our role in supporting clients stems from our ability to provide valuable insights and recommendations. This dynamic work environment will offer you the opportunity to enhance and refine your analytical skills, gain exposure to a multitude of industries and business models as well as provide you with the opportunity to cultivate relationships and build your professional network.

In Risk Advisory you will advise clients how to effectively manage their risk, make informed decisions, and create value by seizing opportunities. As a graduate, you will be working on a broad range of client projects that can include assessing and/or implementing business processes, IT controls, Health & Safety practices, and information security practices. Additionally, you can be involved in helping clients prepare for, detect, and recover from cyber incidents and/or financial crimes.

The Christchurch team is a close-knit and relatively smaller team, offering unique advantages, including the flexibility to work in more than one cluster and the opportunity to be integrated with the team, share knowledge and collaborate. Being the only Risk Advisory team based in the South Island often means you get the opportunity to travel to various client sites across the South Island. In Risk Advisory, we also collaborate extensively with teams based in Auckland and Wellington and across other business units such as Consulting, Audit & Assurance.

The Christchurch Tax team is the largest corporate tax team in the South Island, the team is small enough that we all know each other and work together, but large enough that there is always somebody around to help. We have a friendly and warm team culture which makes for an excellent place to grow your corporate tax career while enjoying the South Island pace of life. We provide tax services to a range of clients from individuals to large listed companies, across a raft of industries such as retail, manufacturing, agriculture, construction, the list goes on!

Graduates are assigned to client teams and also often specialist tax teams, focussed on certain aspects of tax such as Employment tax, GST or the R&D tax credit. This allows you to develop a broad tax knowledge across all areas. Our graduates are often working on tax returns, communicating with Inland Revenue, attending client meetings/workshops, researching and writing advice on transactions, restructures, reviews of different tax types, tax governance – one things for sure, no day is ever the same! 

In Business Advisory, you would offer strategic advice and solutions to help clients address their unique business challenges. This could involve conducting financial analysis, developing business plans, performing due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, evaluating risk management strategies, and assisting with regulatory compliance.
