Our Values and Our Culture

Our Deloitte values inform and guide our wider collective behaviour as Deloitte member firms and unite us around the entire Deloitte network. They drive consistency in the way we behave, make decisions and go to market as we aim to make an impact that matters with our clients, our people and our wider communities.

Deloitte New Zealand take pride in leading the way. We like to set the precedent for how business can be conducted both ethically and efficiently.

Recently, Deloitte lead the way for inclusive recruitment by being the first professional services firm in Aotearoa to host a graduate/internship event specifically tailored to the Māori and Pasifika communities. This unique event focuses on empowering Māori and Pasifika individuals to excel in the professional services industry by offering exclusive networking opportunities, mentorship programs, and career insights tailored to their cultural needs and aspirations.

“Our events not only highlighted the value of diversity, but also provided a taste of what life is like within professional services, demonstrating a commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for all” – Caitlin

At Deloitte, we’re not just about business; we’re also deeply committed to giving back to our communities. Through pro-bono work and volunteer community events, we extend our impact beyond the boardroom. Our dedicated teams offer their skills and expertise to support nonprofit organisations and local initiatives, making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. We believe that corporate responsibility is a core part of who we are, and it’s our way of contributing positively to the world. So, whether it’s lending a hand at a local food bank or providing professional services to a deserving cause, our people are always eager to make a difference where it counts.

Volunteering at the City Mission Food Bank was an incredibly meaningful experience. Not only did it foster a stronger connection with my team but witnessing the dedication, compassion and unwavering support for the Christchurch hapori was truly rewarding” – Sydney

We prioritise taking care of each other because it takes happy staff for a business to make the most impact. An example of how we take care of each other is ensuring our new starters have a smooth and friendly transition into life at Deloitte, which is why we’ve got a buddy system in place. When you join, you’ll be paired up with a buddy who’ll take you out for lunch, and regularly check in with you. They will also be your go-to person for questions about your job, or if you’re feeling stressed or unsure about anything. As you get more comfortable at Deloitte, you’ll have the chance to be a buddy yourself and help others as they start their journey here.

“Having a buddy in the office is like having a comrade, knowing there’s always a helping hand and a listening ear, someone by your side who’s ready to support you, giving you a sense of belonging and comfort” – Cheryl

At Deloitte New Zealand, Hapai Tangata means making everyone feel comfortable and welcome at work. We think that when people are respected and supported, they do their best work. By embracing our unique qualities and perspectives, we can have a big, positive impact on the world. Inclusion is important to us, and we live this value throughout our company.

To support diversity, we have created different groups and initiatives that help us move forward as a company. These include Hourua Pae Rau, Pås Peau, StandOUT (our LGBTTI+ Rainbow Community), our expat channels, and the Internal Asian Network. If you want to learn more about these groups, you can check out our Inclusion at Deloitte page.

“Coming to work everyday and having a community like Pas Peau and Hourua Pae Rau that understands you, truly makes a difference and plays a huge role in finding your place at Deloitte” – Manaaki

Deloitte New Zealand have a range of service lines and offerings to clients. Often, joining the forces of multiple teams ensures we are exceeding client expectations and involving the right mix of talented people to collaborate and make an impact.

Examples of this include Tax, Business Advisory and Audit collaborating on client financial statements to ensure they are accurate, free of errors, and the client are making informed business decisions using tax advice and financial information they can trust.

“Working with the audit team helped me to apply a more well-rounded view to my work in Business Advisory – it taught me to take a step back from the detail and look for the big picture relationships. This experience has been invaluable and has also come in handy when assisting auditors with their queries on my client’s financial statements!” – Sophie

Deloitte’s internal staff awards, known as ‘Bravos!’, serve as a testament to the firm’s commitment to recognising and celebrating excellence among its employees. These awards provide a platform for staff to nominate and commend coworkers who consistently embody Deloitte’s core values and go above and beyond to make a positive impact on clients and communities. By acknowledging and rewarding exceptional performance, Bravos! encourage staff to strive for excellence, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Bravos! can be awarded at any time during the year with monthly and annual winners announced at office and firmwide events.
