Youre eligible for our summer intern programme if youre in your penultimate year of study and currently eligible to work in New Zealand.  

Youre eligible for our graduate programme if youre completing your studies or completed 24 months prior and currently eligible to work in New Zealand.  

Deloitte accepts applications from international students who hold a post study work visa for three years. When applying, youre required to provide evidence that youre legally entitled to work in New Zealand, either for several years as a graduate or for the duration of the internship. Please visit the Immigration New Zealand website for more information.

Summer internships start 18 November 2024, and youll be at the end of your penultimate year of study. You’ll finish up with us on 7 February 2025 before you start your final year. 

Our graduate programme begins on 17 February 2025 following the completion of your final year of study.  

There is the potential opportunity for students who finish mid-year to come on board with us earlier. You’ll still be part of our national graduate programme that kicks off in February 2025.   

Applications open Monday 4 March 2024 and close approximately six weeks later. We review applications as we receive them – this means we would encourage you to apply early for the best chance of success.

We welcome and encourage applications from all university majors. 

Specialised teams such as Assurance and Advisory require you to have the pre-requisite papers completed or be able to complete the bridging papers required to start your CPA or Chartered Accounting (CAANZ) studies when you join us as a graduate.

No – due to the high volume of applications we receive, we’re only able to review your first application. When you apply, you’ll be asked what your second-choice team is, so if you’re interested in two areas, that’s the place to let us know. 

Each year Deloitte attends a number of university career fairs and campus events. The majority of events take place in March, with a few touch points in the second semester (around July – August). Of course! While a number of our summer interns are offered roles to come back as graduates after their final year of study, we still recruit a large number of graduates who have not completed an internship with us.

Our summer internships are open to all students who have the right to work in New Zealand. However, due to the timing of our summer internship which starts in November and ends in February, it best suits students studying in New Zealand and Australia. We also recommend if you’re unsure about your working rights in New Zealand, to please contact Immigration New Zealand to discuss your situation prior to applying.

Due to the volume of applications we receive, we can’t provide a specific timeline for this. Rest assured; we always aim to process your application as soon as we can. Some of our business units hire as they go, whereas others will have set interview days once our applications close.

Treat this like a first face-to-face interview. 

  • Choose clothes you’d wear to work 
  • Complete your interview in a quiet, disruption and distraction free environment 
  • Take time to prepare – research our website, familiarise yourself with the job description and business unit you’re applying for and be aware of anything recent in the news about Deloitte
  • Complete the practice questions at the start of the assessment, they’ll help you get used to the technology
  • You’ll be asked a few questions. The questions vary based on the business unit you’re applying for
  • Be yourself so we’re able to see your personality, be clear on your motivations for a career at Deloitte and the business unit to which you are applying 
  • Don’t forget to smile and relax as much as you can, these questions aren’t designed to trick you! 

This is where your application process ends. We’ll let you know as soon as possible about the outcome of your video interview. 

If you are successful, you’ll be invited to a face-to-face interview in the office with our team. 

Our recruitment process has several stages to give you a chance to learn about us, as well as help us learn about you. These are as follows:

  1. Application. Prepare your cover letter, CV and academic transcript. Make sure you research the role you are applying for using our website and listen to The Deloitte Download podcast.
  2. One-way video interview. Complete the video interview as per email instructions from us. Highlight your personality and why you want the role.
  3. Two-way interview. We may call you and ask to setup an interview. This is a chance for you to meet some of the Deloitte team and ask about the role.
  4. Offer. If the team think you’d be a great fit, you’ll receive a phone call with an offer from us! You’ll then get a contract via email to sign and be officially part of our Deloitte intern and graduate cohort. 

We have offices in Auckland/Tāmaki-makau-rau, Albany/Ōkahukura, Hamilton/Kirikiriroa, Rotorua, Tauranga, Wellington/Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Christchurch/Ōtautahi, Queenstown/Tahuna, and Dunedin/Ōtepoti. Not all our offices offer the same opportunities so read more about our locations and make sure the job you want is available in your preferred city.

Flexible working varies across business units and is different for everyone. Were happy to discuss what works best for you when you commence employment with us. 

Youll be paired with a buddy and a coach to help you transition into Deloitte life.  

Your buddy is your go to person to answer any questions you may have. Theyll catch up with you several times before you start and invite you to team events so you can get to the know your team before your first day in the office. When you start, they’ll introduce you to your team (if you haven’t met them already), help you get settled in and get you up to speed with everything you need to know.   

Your coach is there to provide you support throughout your time with us and help you be your best! They’ll work with you to identify your strengths, understand your development and growth opportunities, and help interpret feedback you’ll receive. 

If you’re a graduate, you’ll take part in our graduate development programme which runs during your first week with us and equips you with the skills and knowledge needed for life at Deloitte. We provide a variety of tools and training through mentoring and peer support to ensure you achieve your career goals and success.
